Quick answer: Fall is the best time of year for dark spot treatment in Orland Park and the southwest suburbs. UV is lower, you spend less time outdoors, and you have about six months before next summer to finish a full series. With an IPL photo facial, most clients see brighter, more even skin after 1 to 2 sessions, with a full plan of 3 to 6 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart. Stubborn spots often respond to a TCA chemical peel, currently $100 (regularly $250). Melasma is treated differently, so every plan starts with a free skin assessment. What Summer Actually Did to Your Skin

UV light tells the pigment cells in your skin to make more melanin. A tan is the short-term result. Dark spots are the long-term one, and they often show up weeks after summer ends, once the tan fades and the uneven patches are left behind. Not every brown mark is the same, which is why the treatment has to match the spot.

Why Fall Is the Best Time to Treat Dark Spots

  • Lower UV, less outdoor time. Treated skin heals best when it is not fighting fresh sun exposure every weekend.
  • The spots are easy to see right now. Summer pigment is at its most visible in early fall, so it is easy to map exactly what needs treatment.
  • Time to finish a full series. Three to six IPL sessions spaced four weeks apart takes three to six months. Start in fall and you are done by spring.
  • Holiday timing. Plan the last session a week or two before Thanksgiving, holiday parties or family photos, and you will be at your best for them.
  • Downtime is easier. A few days of mild redness or flaking is simpler to manage when you are not in a swimsuit.

IPL Photo Facial: The Fall Favorite

An IPL photo facial uses pulses of broad-spectrum light to target pigment and redness under the surface. Each session takes about 30 to 45 minutes. In the days after, dark spots often look darker and slightly raised before they flake away, much like coffee grounds. That is a sign it is working. Most clients see clearer skin within 1 to 2 weeks of each session.

IPL works best on lighter skin tones. If your skin is darker or tans easily, we will recommend a safer route, usually peels or microneedling. Many clients book a HydraFacial between IPL sessions to keep skin hydrated.

TCA and VI Peels: For Spots That Won’t Quit

A medical-grade chemical peel removes the damaged outer layers so newer, more even skin comes through. A TCA peel is a strong choice for stubborn sun spots and dull tone, and the VI Peel is built for pigmentation and acne marks. For a full price breakdown, read How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost in Orland Park?

Microneedling: For Acne Marks and Texture

Microneedling creates tiny controlled channels that boost collagen and speed up skin renewal. It is a good fit for marks left by breakouts and for skin that does not do well with heat. Adding exosomes can help skin recover faster.

CO2 Resurfacing: For Deep, Long-Standing Sun Damage

When sun damage comes with deeper lines and rough texture, fractional CO2 laser resurfacing delivers the biggest change in the fewest sessions. It has the most downtime, which is why fall and winter are the ideal time for it. See our CO2 Resurfacing Aftercare guide for a day-by-day look at recovery.

A Word on Melasma

Melasma behaves differently from ordinary sun spots. It is linked to hormones and is sensitive to heat as well as sun, so an aggressive heat-based treatment can sometimes make it come back darker. That is why we assess melasma carefully before recommending IPL or laser.

For many clients, the plan leans on gentle peels, microneedling and medical-grade brightening products, plus strict daily sunscreen. Melasma can be managed and softened a lot, but it usually needs maintenance. Learn more about our pigmentation treatment plans.

Before and After Your Treatment

Your technician will give you exact instructions for your treatment. In general:

Before

  • Avoid tanning, tanning beds and self-tanner in the weeks before IPL.
  • Ask us whether to pause retinol or exfoliating acids before a peel.
  • Tell us about any medications, especially ones that make you sun-sensitive.
  • Come in with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area if you can.

After

  • Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day, even when it is cloudy.
  • Let flaking or darkened spots fall off on their own. Do not pick.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, and skip scrubs for a few days.
  • Keep up with your scheduled sessions. Results build over the series.

Fall Dark Spot Treatment FAQs

When is the best time to get IPL in the Chicago area?
Fall and winter. UV is lower, you are outdoors less, and you have time to finish a full series before summer.

How many IPL sessions will I need?
Most plans are 3 to 6 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart. Many clients notice a difference after the first 1 to 2.

Why do my spots look darker after IPL?
That is normal. Treated pigment rises to the surface, darkens and flakes off, usually within 1 to 2 weeks.

Does IPL hurt?
Most clients describe a quick snap, like a rubber band. It is over fast and numbing is usually not needed.

Can you treat melasma?
Yes, but carefully. Melasma is sensitive to heat, so we assess it first and often use gentler peels, microneedling and brightening products.

Is IPL safe for darker skin tones?
IPL works best on lighter skin. For darker skin, we usually recommend peels or microneedling instead.

Can I be done before the holidays?
Yes. Start now and schedule your last session at least 1 to 2 weeks before your event.

What is the difference between IPL and a chemical peel?
IPL targets pigment below the surface with light. A peel removes damaged outer layers. Our Chemical Peel vs Microneedling vs Laser Resurfacing guide explains more.

How long do results last?
Treated spots stay lighter, but new ones can form with sun exposure. Daily SPF and a yearly touch-up keep results going.

Can you treat my neck, chest and hands?
Yes. IPL has package pricing for the face, neck, chest and other areas.

How much is a TCA peel?
Our current TCA Peel special is $100, regularly $250.

Do you see clients from Tinley Park, Palos Heights, Homer Glen and Frankfort?
Yes, along with Orland Park, Mokena, Lockport, New Lenox, Oak Lawn and the rest of the southwest suburbs.

How do I book?
Call (708) 229-8800 or book online. Your first step is a free skin assessment.
